This little doll is named after Misty Copland, who danced with the American Ballet Theatre (ABT). She was the first African American female to be a principal dancer for ABT. Misty was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1982. She did not begin formal ballet training until she was 13 years old! She studied at the San Francisco Ballet and Lauridsen Ballet Center in California. Misty was invited to join the ABT studio company in 2001 where she was the only African American woman in a group of 80 dancers. Misty has also written several children's books including Bunheads and Firebird. There are even 2 Misty Copeland Barbies! One, modeled after her role in the Disney Movie The Nutcracker and the Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
